The U.S Embassy in Addis Ababa and Save the Nation Association has launched a program of Traffic Injury prevention on School Children’s. The aim of the new project launching is to prevent Primary School Children’s from eminent Traffic Injury by implementing Road Safety trainings for students.
At the launching ceremony different officials invited from different sectors. Federal Transport Authority, Federal Police commission, Different School Principals and School traffic students has attended.
The Executive Director Ato Mesganaw Bimrew has made the opening speech by welcoming the invited Guests and explains the problem of Traffic injury in the country and gave details What Save the Nation Association has planned and can do with the U.S Embassy to combat this weigh down.
The U.S Embassy information officer Mrs. Catharine Diop has made the speech to the attendance. Mrs. Catharine Diop started her speech by remembering The World Remembrance Day of Traffic Victims and gave her condolences to the Victims for the loved once and friends including to the founder of Save the Nation Association Mr. Mesganaw Bimrew as he lost his father due to traffic injury. She said, unfortunately in Ethiopia the statics are not good and so this is a very important issue and we are very proud to be partnering with all of the partners here today to help to create awareness sensitization and for the training about the program. She said I am here on behalf of Ambassador Haslatch who strongly believe about this issues. She said I also share the woman and disabilities working group at the U.S Embassy many disabilities are also created as Mr. Mesaganaw mentioned through Traffic Accident and Traffic incidents and we are committed as U.S Embassy to continue to work on main streaming accessibility for disable persons and also again creating awareness all of this different issues. She said I am delighted to meet officials from federal police commission and also from Ethiopian Federal Transport Authority and she thanked for the support they have given She said again we need to believe working together to be able to solve this problem for our children for our families for elderly people for our community this is an issue that we need to take it very seriously we shall be united to fight Traffic injury. She also said We partner with Save the Nation Association and awarded the grant to help promote the traffic safety and awareness project at the ten public schools in Addis Ababa we hope that in the future more awareness will be able to expand the project it’s very important to reach out even out of Addis and to create awareness among school children’s students, University students and others.
Commander Affer Berihe Head of Traffic Affairs Division from Federal Police he said Children’s life’s are priceless we are the once that cause accidents and we are also the once that can protect our self against accident and when we hear about the accident that happen to kids we should be alarmed kids are the leaders of tomorrow and its sad to hear something happen to them whenever they step out and there is no other devastation than to lose the lives of children due to car accident we should stop neglecting children because there is no greater satisfaction than to help and careful children.
