Condolences to the Victims and Justice to Families of Victims and Survivors of this Fatal Accident
03 September 2019, Addis Ababa: Save the Nation Association (SNA) the nation’s leading Road Safety Organization would like to express its heartfelt condolences for the loss of life following the tragic road traffic injury which happens in the Northern of Ethiopia.
The traffic crash happened in Tigrai Region on 2th September, 2019 along the Shiree-Mekele City road, left 3 people dead, 8 with life threatening injuries, others with permanent disabilities.
Mesganaw Bimrew, the Executive Director of SNA, said:
“We think much more should be considered to bring justice to families of victims and survivors of this fatal accident.
“We share the pain of the victims’ families, road deaths are not normal deaths. They are sudden and unnatural and families usually do not have a chance to say goodbye”.
“SNA are saddened by this tragic loss of life. We would like to send our sincere condolences to the families of the departed ones and wish the survivors quick recovery of their injuries.
“Road Traffic Accidents are preventable and avoidable if we all work together and follow traffic rules.”
Every year more than 5,000 people are killed on Ethiopian roads, apart from the emotional suffering, this has huge toll on the country’s economy as many people who are involved are health and employed.
“Lack of effective road safety action is killing us”, Mesganaw said.
“Each day we see people killed on Ethiopia’s’ roads and other seriously injured, we need to act now”.
SNA is urging government to make urgent and serious road safety considerations to effectively save lives on our roads. /END
